Inspiring Illustrators | Little Canoe

I recently looked on Etsy for some artistic inspiration to get my creative writing juices flowing and was overwhelmed. There are so many talented people out there! The insides of their heads must be like an acid trip without the terrifying side effects. So, I chose a few people that I liked - purely out of my own personal taste - to share with you. The first is Little Canoe.

I was drawn more to this artist's work than some of the other illustrative artists I looked at. I think it may be due to the fact that although there is a certain childlike, whimsical element to the drawings of people, animals, ships and accordions, while still managing to retain a grown up quality. It's not so much a darker edge, but the crisp and clear details, with the lovely use of slightly muted colours on plain backgrounds, definitely make the designs stand out, while retaining a flowing, magical feel.

It's a bit like wearing a superhero costume under your work suit. It feels like youth, innocence and imagination wrapped up in a more mature, adult bow. This is perfectly highlighted with the "Mister & Mister Love" card. I specifically like the "Accordion Sea" print and the "Coffee Tastes Better" greeting card, but totes and mugs are also available. So, put some daisies in your hair and dance to Kate Bush with these designs covering your walls. Perfect.
