Manchester Children's Book Festival is an annual summer festival that takes place in numerous venues around Manchester. Events range from Storytelling to parties to film screenings. There's something for everyone (even adults).
Living in a technology-focused world can be a little over-whelming sometimes, especially for children. With two nephews under the age of seven I know how hyper kids can get when their day revolves around their Nintendo DS or their Wii. I'm not going to get all high and mighty and sell myself as an incredibly intellectual child, I remember begging for a Furby and hiding it in my drawer. (Seriously they were really scary, weren't they?) Anyway, books were a big part of my childhood. More specifically The Babysitters Club and Goosebumps. There's nothing quite like finding an author you love and getting so caught up in their series of books that your bookshelf begins to buckle from the weight.
One of the free events is a fun day that will take place on the 30th of June. Most of the events are free throughout the festival, which is convenient for anyone who is feeling the stress of an empty wallet (so that's everyone then right?)
Books aren't just about reading, they're about discovering new ways of thinking, having things to talk about and finding inspiration for everyday life. Encouraging your child to be interested in reading at an early age may be one of the best things you could ever do for them. There is so much for them to discover!
See you there!
